Meet your colorist
About Caitlin Richards
A hair colorist who believes bold, creative color and genuinely healthy hair are not a trade-off — and that you should leave the chair feeling looked after, not processed.
Hello
I’m Cait — and yes, the color is the point
I’m a hair colorist based in Chatham Township, New Jersey, and vivid color is where I’m genuinely happiest. Hot pinks, electric blues, violets, rainbows, hidden peek-a-boos, placed block designs — the work that takes real technical planning and gives someone a look they’ve been quietly wanting for years.
But the thing I care about most isn’t the photo at the end. It’s that your hair is still healthy, that you understood every step of how we got there, and that you felt genuinely looked after while it happened.
Hair health, hair care and your overall wellbeing are my top priorities. That’s not a tagline — it’s the reason I’ll sometimes tell you that the thing you asked for needs two appointments instead of one, or that we should build up to it. Bright color is only worth having if you can keep wearing it.
How I work
Honest planning, then careful execution
Every service I do starts with your hair as it actually is today — not as a photo suggests it could be. Your color history, your hair’s condition, how it behaves, and crucially how much maintenance realistically fits your life.
Then I tell you the truth. How many sessions your goal actually needs. What it will cost to maintain, not just to create. How it will grow out in four months. Whether the thing you’ve seen online is achievable on your hair at all.
I’d much rather have a slightly awkward conversation at a consultation than watch someone spend a lot of money on a result that disappoints them, or damages hair they then have to cut off.
Hair health, in practice
I work K18 bond-building treatment through my lightening, balayage and vivid color services as standard. It helps rebuild the internal structure of hair during and after chemical work, which is precisely when hair is most vulnerable. It’s part of the service, not an add-on I’ll try to sell you at the basin.
And I’ll stage bigger transformations across multiple appointments rather than force them in one sitting. Over-processed hair won’t hold vivid pigment anyway — so rushing it costs you the very result you came in for.

Why clients stay
What Sets Cait Apart
Six things that shape every appointment.
Hair health comes first, always
Cait uses K18 bond-building treatment throughout her lightening and vivid services, because bright color is only worth it if your hair still feels like hair afterwards. If a look would wreck your hair, she’ll tell you and offer a smarter route.
A genuine vivid specialist
Pinks, blues, purples, rainbows, peek-a-boos and block color are not an occasional request here — they’re her craft. Vivid work is technically demanding, and experience is the difference between a color you love and an expensive correction.
Honest, realistic planning
You’ll hear how many sessions your goal actually takes, what it costs to maintain, and how it will grow out — before anything is mixed. No surprises in the mirror and none at the front desk either.
You leave feeling looked after
Cait’s whole aim is that you feel loved and special in her chair. That means being listened to properly, never rushed, and treated like a person rather than an appointment slot.
Color built around your real life
A low-maintenance balayage that grows out softly and a high-impact vivid both have their place — the right answer depends on your routine, budget and job. Cait designs around the life you actually live.
Care that continues at home
You’ll leave knowing exactly how to wash, protect and refresh your color so it holds on for weeks longer — which products matter, which genuinely don’t, and when to come back in.
In the chair
The experience I want you to have
I always strive to make my clients feel loved and special when they get into my chair. Being in a salon can be a strangely vulnerable thing — you’re handing someone control over how you look, often while asking for something you’re nervous about.
So: you get listened to properly. You don’t get rushed. You don’t get talked over, or talked into something because it’s easier for me. And you don’t get made to feel silly for wanting bright pink hair at 45, or for not knowing what a toner is.
You leave with color you love, hair that’s still in good condition, and a clear idea of how to look after both.

Vivid and fantasy hair color — pinks, blues, purples, rainbows, peek-a-boo placements and block color designs — alongside balayage and blonding. Vivid work is her craft rather than an occasional request, which matters because it’s technically demanding and experience is the difference between a color you love and an expensive correction.

Is Cait good with nervous or first-time color clients?
Yes — it’s a large part of how she works. The complimentary consultation exists precisely so nobody has to commit to something they don’t understand yet, and peek-a-boo color is there for people who want to try vivid without a full commitment. You’ll never be rushed into a decision in her chair.
What products does Cait use?
Professional-grade color, with K18 bond-building treatment worked through her lightening, balayage and vivid services as standard to help protect the internal structure of the hair. For smoothing she uses Brazilian Blowout. She’ll also tell you which home-care products genuinely matter for your color and which are marketing.
